Bangladesh Orthopaedic Society (BOS) is an Association of Orthopaedic and Trauma surgeons in Bangladesh. 950 Orthopaedic surgeons are now active members of Bangladesh Orthopaedic Society.
Orthopaedic Surgery in Bangladesh has a great historic beginning after the liberation war in 1971. Under direct supervision of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Dr. Ronald Joseph Garst, a missionary orthopaedic surgeon from USA had come forward to give treatment to the war injured freedom fighters. Understanding necessity of orthopaedics & trauma surgery in Bangladesh the government with the help R. J. Garst and other renowned orthopaedic surgeons from different countries of the world established RIHD which is now known as the National Institute of Orthopaedics & Traumatology Rehabilitation (NITOR), centre of excellence of orthopaedic & trauma, from where we started the journey of orthopaedic surgery in Bangladesh.
Bangladesh Orthopaedic Society was formed on 24th August, 1979, 38 years ago with the objective to establish cooperation & friendship among the members and linking with other relevant association in home & abroad for developing the orthopaedic subject to world standard level. The envious flourish of Bangladesh Orthopaedic Society during the last couple of years really amazed all concerned for wide spread international interaction, academic and scientific activity and nationally committed services.
We are organizing national & international conference, seminars, workshop, CMEs & also publishing journals regularly. Super specialties are now established in our country. Several super specialty societies have been formed & they are organizing several academic activities, conferences, CMEs in collaboration with Bangladesh Orthopaedic Society. We are trying to develop the skill of orthopaedic surgeons by sending them for training in super-specialty subjects Bangladesh Orthopaedic Society providing scholarship in home & abroad.
Bangladesh Orthopaedic Society is now member of OASAC, SICOT, the federation member of APOA, Associate member of EFORT, we are also partner of ASAMI along with ASAMI Bangladesh Chapter, Eurasian Orthopaedic Forum (EOF), Association of Traumatologists and Orthopaedists of Russia (ATOR), Sustainable Club Foot Care in Bangladesh (SCCB), Jaipur Foot of India. BOS has joint collaboration with AO Alliance Foundation, Indian Orthopaedic Association (IOA), West Bengal Orthopaedic Association (WBOA), Surgical Implant Generation Network (SIGN) Fracture Care International, USA.
In join collaboration of different orthopaedic societies or association in the world, members of BOS are attending different conferences & workshops in home and abroad to enrich their knowledge & skill. Society members are appreciated in those conferences for their brilliant works & presentations.
Bangladesh Orthopaedic Society is leaded by 35 members of elected Executive Committee with President Prof. Dr. Md. Abdul Gani Mollah and Secretary General Dr. Md. Wahidur Rahman.
